We’re less than two weeks from the release of the wildly anticipated Kong: Skull Island! The monster film, which will serve as the second installment of Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, has marketed well so far, presenting us with trailers that focus on the fun banter between characters, the Vietnam War era vibe, both stylistically and in musical choices, and most importantly, what appears to be stellar fight sequences between the monsters we crave.

Kong: Skull Island

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who directed the brilliant coming-of-age dramedy The Kings of Summer, took the helm of Kong: Skull Island, directing from a script by Dan Gilroy (writer/director of 2014’s Nightcrawler) and Max Bornstein. The film is stacked with a talented ensemble cast that includes Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Toby Kebbell, Shea Whigham and many more. The plot synopsis for the blockbuster action flick is as follows:

In 1971, a secretive organization known as Monarch finds an island that is shrouded in mystery and identified as the origin for a new species. The resulting expedition to the island reveals that a giant ape named Kong is at the center of a battle for dominion over the island, against the apex predators, nicknamed “Skullcrawlers”, responsible for wiping out his kind. As the expedition crew makes plans to fight for survival against Kong and the other monsters on the island, some of them begin to see that Kong is worth saving.

The trailer released today, dubbed ‘Rise of the King’, doesn’t forgo the fun tone of previous clips, but it does ratchet up the action, specifically between Kong and the monsters, in what is likely the final “shut up and take our money” blow that the marketing team will dish out before the film’s release on March 10th. You can catch the big monsters on the big screen then, but for now check out the exciting trailer below and let us know what you think!
