With each day that passes, we’re inching closer to the July release date of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Back in December, we were presented with a fun first trailer that highlighted the film’s tone and genuine high school aesthetic, but now, thanks to a brand new trailer, our spidey senses are tingling with plot expectations.
The trailer momentarily sticks with what we already know. Peter Parker is trying to balance his everyday teenage obligations with those of a superhero. He wears his fresh suit and disobeys the orders of Tony Stark frequently because, well, he’s a superhero too, so why should he have to listen to anyone? What’s different about this trailer, however, is that Parker appears to get his suit taken away due to his reckless behavior. Claiming that he’s “nothing without the suit,” it seems that a major plot point in Spider-Man: Homecoming will be Peter Parker finding the hero within himself.
We also see more of Michael Keaton’s Vulture in this trailer, rallying his army and threatening to kill everyone Peter loves. In the footage we’ve seen thus far, it’s hard to judge if Vulture will bring anything fresh to the Marvel villain territory, but Keaton is a powerhouse, so here’s to hoping for a menacing, worthwhile character.
All in all, we couldn’t be more stoked for Spider-Man: Homecoming based on this trailer. The tone doesn’t betray Marvel’s usual fun, but the coming-of-age aspect could very well lend the film a powerful weight as we witness Peter Parker, not Spider-Man, become the hero. Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think!
