In Heath Ledger’s brief but nonetheless effective career in film, the actor presented audiences with several brilliant performances that will stand the test of time. In celebration of what would have been his 38th birthday, we’re taking a look at the actor’s five best performances.
5Patrick Verona (10 Things I Hate About You)
Serving as the breakthrough role for Heath Ledger in 1999, Gil Junger’s modern update of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew found audiences falling in love with the actor for the first time. In the film, Ledger plays “bad boy” Patrick Verona, who is hired to date Kat (Julia Stiles, also in a breakthrough role) and take her to prom, falling for her in the process. The cast is far and away the greatest asset 10 Things I Hate About You has to offer, and much of that is credited to the oh-so-charming performance of Heath Ledger.
