The MCU has dominated cinema for nearly ten years, though the Thor series of films has often been criticized as one of the weaker series, offering a fun-enough first film and following it up with a lackluster sequel. With the release of the first Thor: Ragnarok teaser, however, perhaps the series is poised for a Hulk-sized change.
The first look at Thor: Ragnarok sees the series establishing a fun, somewhat retro tone as Thor and others compete in gladiator-style battle. Early in the trailer, we see Thor’s trusty hammer destroyed by Hela, the Goddess of Death (Cate Blanchett), leaving the hero vulnerable (though you can hardly tell) enough to be captured and forced to fight in a coliseum along with other worthy competitors. We know from the trailer that Thor is featured in the main event, showing up with a fly haircut, and that his opponent is none other than a “friend from work” known as Hulk. Thor excitedly announces that he and Hulk are buddies and expects the fighting to cease, but things don’t exactly work out in his favor as the teaser ends with the two clashing in the center of the arena.
