Back in the 1950’s, there was a whole sub-genre of film in which humanity was terrorized by giant, man eating bugs. Although the genre has pretty much faded away, squished like a giant bug under the even more giant boots of today’s Hollywood blockbusters, one filmmaker intends on bringing them back. If the trailer is anything to go by, Marko Mäkilaakso’s (War of the Dead) It Came From The Desert is going to be a throwback hoot.
Based on the long forgotten ‘Cinemaware’ adventure action video game of the same name, the film follows a small community that is forever changed after a meteorite crash lands in the desert, and mutates the local ant population into humongous killers with more on their minds than simply raiding your picnic baskets!
The film – which is being heralded as the new Tremors – is co-written by Hank Woon Jr. (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (Killjoy), and stars Mark Arnold (Teen Wolf), Vanessa Grasse (Leatherface) and Michael Majalahti (Spandex Sapiens).
There hasn’t been an official release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear anything. For now though, check out the skin crawling first trailer below.
