Ben Affleck’s stint as Batman has been an up and down affair, and it may be over sooner than anyone could have anticipated. Affleck is at SDCC 2017 this weekend promoting Justice League, which is slated for a November 17th release date, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, we may never see him step into the role of the caped crusader again.
Toby Emmerich, Warner’s film studio chief, has mentioned to THR that Ben is their Batman, and Matt Reeves, who will write and direct the studio’s solo film, has been open about his intentions to keep Ben Affleck aboard- but a source close to THR reports that thing aren’t as they seem.
Though there’s no exact date planned for his exit, the source states that the studio is working on plans to usher out Batfleck gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films. A new script for The Batman hasn’t yet been written, so assuming that Affleck will portray the character in that film might prove disappointing in the coming months.
