After announcing that the much anticipated Xbox One patch was live for Friday the 13th: The Game, Xbox players were given access to the playable Tom Savini Jason…for free. This news wasn’t taken very well by many in the game’s community since this Jason was meant to be an exclusive for their Kickstarter supporters. Backers did pay additional for the DLC. Of course, others who didn’t back the game were delighted at the news.
In a May 31st statement from Gun Media regarding the Savini Jason, they had this to say:
“We showcased the skin as a teaser, we posted a teaser video, we had Tom Savini reveal his creation on our social channels with final warnings that this skin was not going to be sold after the conclusion of our backer campaign.
So here we are and here is where we are always going to stand; that skin and those clothing items are not for sale. They are not for secondary sale. They are for those that backed us and have been with us from the beginning. They are the people that took a chance on a campaign that has produced a game that is overall fun. Sure, we have issues that are being addressed at this time, but no amount of comments, complaints or insults or suggestions are going to bring that skin back. There was over a year and a half time for someone to feasibly learn about that content and purchase it for $6 or $9; you did not even need to buy the game is you did not wish too at the time.”
This isn’t the first time Friday the 13th: The Game’s Savini Jason was made available outside of Kickstarter. Early last month, the skin showed up in the PlayStation Store after an update. Players had the same reaction as now- some excited, some angry. Gun Media did acknowledge the issue and explained that it should have never been on sale.
Sony accidentally put the content up for sale, we contacted them as soon as we found out and they are pulling it.

While there hasn’t been an official statement from Gun Media regarding the skin’s availability in the Microsoft store, they have tweeted that they’re looking into it.
Thank you for the heads up! We are aware of this and looking into it.

This response combined with their statements about Savini Jason’s exclusivity leads us to believe this probably wasn’t a purposeful decision on Gun’s end. I can’t imagine they wanted to bring on even more heat, especially after the feedback received last month. As of the time of this article, the Savini Jason is still available. We’ll keep you posted on any official statements.
