Crime never sleeps, and neither do we. Warner and DC are setting the internet ablaze with news the last couple of the days, and they’re back it with the confirmation of a Joker and Harley Quinn standalone film.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, directors and executive producers of the hit NBC drama This Is Us and who also wrote and directed the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love, are taking on the project that will showcase the DC villains. The duo are in final negotiations to write and direct the film, which is expect to return Jared Leto and Margot Robbie as Joker and Harley Quinn, respectively.
The film is being described as a “criminal love story,” and is expected to come after the sequel to Suicide Squad.
This news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Joker is getting his own standalone origin film from Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese. That film, however, will not star Jared Leto or be connected to the DCEU.
Ficarra and Requa previously worked with Margot Robbie while writing and directing 2015’s Focus.
