Andy Muschietti‘s IT movie is less than a week away, bringing with it a new, hopefully terrifying version of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, as portrayed by Bill Skarsgard. While the horror community is prepared to welcome Skarsgard with open arms (until he tears them off, that is), Tim Curry’s performance in the 1990 miniseries will always hold a special place in our nightmares.

I could write 10,000 words about Curry’s unrivaled showcase of terror, but honestly, it’s a performance that speaks for itself. So, to honor his iconic work before the passing of the torch, we’ve gathered a bunch of scary-ass GIFs to remind you that Tim Curry is a goddamn legend.

To this day, I maintain that Pennywise just chilling by the clothesline is THE reason I hate doing laundry.

Thanks to Pennywise, this is literally me every time I see a hitchhiker on the side of the road. Don’t blame me for being an asshole. I’m not trying to float.
pennywise
Fuck a goddamn paper boat. My sick, stuttering brother made that shit, and I still say fuck it.

You know what’s fun about this image? Not a damn thing.
pennywise
For the love of God, yes. Close that damn door.
pennywise
Nope.
pennywise
Double nope.
pennywise
Triple. Fucking. Nope.
pennywise
Guys, I know this looks fun, but it’s no laughing matter. Run for cover.

*Googles how to get a restraining order against a clown*

To be completely honest though, Bill Skarsgard’s take on the horrifying character isn’t half bad either.

pennywise
Yeah… fuck that.

Like the rest of the internet, we can’t wait to check out the big-screen adaptation of IT when it floats to theaters next Thursday night- especially after hearing Stephen King’s impressed comments about Muschietti’s flick. Be it Tim Curry or Bill Skarsgard, I think we can all agree that Pennywise is actual nightmare fuel. If you come across either one, chances are that you’ll float too.
