Fresh off the news that Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to the Halloween franchise, we have another unexpected but incredibly welcome reunion in the making. At a private event celebrating the Terminator franchise, James Cameron announced that Linda Hamilton would be returning to the series after a 25 year absence, stepping into the role of heroine Sarah Connor once again.
Said Cameron, “As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.”
The filmmaker also commented on gender roles in action movies, saying, “There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
Tim Miller, who made his feature debut with Deadpool, is directing the sequel with Cameron attached as producer, and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning to their iconic starring roles. The news comes as a huge shot in the arm for a franchise that has struggled to gain traction in recent years.
