Albus Dumbledore once said, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” With this sage advice, the Harry Potter generation pushed their dreams of living as a witch or wizard to the back of their subconscious and accepted a muggle life. Dumbledore died well before the social media era, however, and the advancements in muggle technology have been unprecedented, now allowing us to rebel against those “wise” words and become a freaking wizard! (Sure, it’s only in a game. But who cares?)
Niantic, the creators of the temporarily popular Pokemon Go have announced that they are teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games San Francisco to develop Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, a location-based augmented reality game based on the iconic world of the boy who lived.
Per Niantic, “players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.” In the game, players will learn spells while exploring real-world locations, team up with other players to fight enemies, and encounter legendary beasts. Niantic has also teased that the game will include “iconic characters.”
There’s no word yet on the release date, but we can’t wait to dedicate every second of our lives to the Wizarding World. Of course, our new wizard lives will only exist in the game and in our heads, but why on earth should that mean it is not real?
