Set for a May 2nd release, a new series titled Cobra Kai is being brought to you via the YouTube Red platform. It is a continuation of the Karate Kid trilogy that we all love and know so well.
The story line is set thirty-nine years after the infamous match between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Based on what is shown in the trailers that have come out so far, Johnny gets into a confrontation that leads him down the path of opening a Cobra Kai dojo. His tenets are the same as what were set by his sensei…
Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy
Johnny is seen quickly gaining students and motivating them by playing to their insecurities while encouraging ruthlessness. Sensei John Kreese would be proud. On the way to his business, LaRusso Auto, Daniel spots the newly opened Cobra Kai Karate dojo and it appears that he does not take it lightly. While the trailers don’t come out and show it specifically, it would appear that Daniel will begin teaching as well. We do know that a big karate tournament will be part of the main story arc. (SWEEP THE LEG!)
The show seems to have a good dose of humor involved and also takes some lighthearted jabs at the original saga. If Cobra Kai is as good as the trailers make it out to be, then YouTube Red looks to have a hit on their hands. We can’t wait to check out Cobra Kai, and we are very curious to see what other shows YouTube Red has coming in the future.
Check out the trailers below, if you haven’t seen them already, and let us know if you’re ready!
