There’s obviously going to be no shortage of Marvel comic book characters appearing in the upcoming film Avengers: Infinity War. Several familiar favorites will of course be returning, and we’re bound to see a surprise or two in the mix as well. But one superhero we definitely won’t be seeing in the movie is the one and only Silver Surfer.
Apparently, a cast listing popped up on MetaCritic last month listing Curt Clendenin as Silver Surfer. This launched rumors right away that the surfing superhero would appear in the film, probably in a cameo type of role. But now it seems that this information is simply inaccurate, according to one of the film’s directors.
Joe Russo, who directed Infinity War along with his brother Anthony, has officially shut down these rumors in a new interview with Yahoo. “I don’t think we own Silver Surfer,” Russo says, but doesn’t rule out the possibility of it happening in a future film. He adds, “If this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true.”
This also still doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing Silver Surfer on the big screen again. The character has his own Marvel movie in the works as well, so he’ll get his own chance to shine soon enough!
Avengers: Infinity War will premiere in theaters on April 23rd. Take a look at the official trailer below!
