Last year, due to a response from Kevin Bacon on Twitter, news broke that the actor was interested in taking on the iconic role of Freddy Krueger, the dream-wrecking villain of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. While many fans were up in arms over the news, some actually agreed that he’d be a perfect choice to take on the character- including OG Freddy, Robert Englund.
While chatting with Cinema Blend, Englund acknowledged the rumor of Bacon’s interest in the role. Said Robert, “Yeah. I think that would be great. He’s in one of my favorite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven’t seen it. And I just think Kevin’s the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn’t make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.”
While New Line Cinema doesn’t appear to have any new plans for the franchise at this time (despite this absurd premise that surfaced on IMDb), it’s safe to assume that it won’t remain dormant forever. Would you like to see Kevin Bacon play Krueger in an Elm Street film? Let us know!
