So you consider yourself to be a HUGE Harry Potter fan, huh? Well, we think we’ve found the BIGGEST Potter fan on the planet, and he just so happens to have a copy of Diagon Alley on his driveway.
According to a news piece over at GeekWire, Jon Chambers, a father of two Muggles from Seattle, has decided to spend his down town recreating the iconic shopping district, made famous in the Harry Potter universe on the driveway of his Ballard home.
Chambers (pictured above on the right) told GeekWire that he actually quit his job to concentrate on this suburban marvel, which includes storefronts for the Eeylops Owl Emporium, Magical Menagerie, Flourish and Blotts bookshop, Ollivander’s wands, Quality Quidditch Supplies, and Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions.
“I’ve always wanted to do something massive for Halloween or Christmas. I was born the day before Halloween, and October is like my power month. So I decided to quit my job and focus on this crazy thing.”
If you ask Jon why he decided to recreate Diagon Alley in the first place, he’ll probably tell you it was to please his daughters, aged seven and eleven. If you scratch beneath the surface though you’ll find that he’s as big a Potter-head as his kids.
“Obviously I loved the movies when they came out, and when they came out the girls weren’t born yet, I don’t think.”
But this isn’t just a project to satiate his inner nerd. Chambers has actually decided to make his own piece of the Harry Potter universe to raise money for victims of pancreatic cancer. He intends to open the Alley up to the public, offering special festive tours visiting all the places Harry Potter visited in the books and movies and donate every penny he makes – which is something we can all get on board with!
Chambers has hinted that his next plan is to build a copy of the Millennium Falcon, which he intends to have strapped to his roof. All we have to say about that is HELL YEAH!
On a personal note though, thanks a bunch Jon! Now I’m gonna have to build my wife her own Diagon Alley or she’ll leave me. Way to raise the husband stakes, bro.
