One of the things I hate about working 3rd shift is that all of the news happens while I am asleep. When I awoke yesterday evening the horror press was abuzz with the news of the release of the Hellraiser: Judgement trailer. It was nice to finally see Paul T. Taylor as Pinhead instead of the production stills we were accustomed to.
With a few shots of a house and a bright light, you are greeted with the slogan “From the depths of hell” the trailer then segues into the Hellraiser world we know. We see the Lament Configuration, aka The Box, and quick glimpses of chains, and very brief visuals of Pinhead. Finally, Pinhead fades in from the darkness while uttering the phrase “Evil seeks evil.”
The trailer from that point on comes screaming at you at 100 miles an hour and never lets up. We get brief visuals of some of the new characters that obviously come from south of heaven. From what has been released about the plot, we know that new characters will be unveiled and go by the names the Auditor, the Assessor, and the Jury.
The new film centers around police detectives attempting to stop a maniacal serial killer and find themselves battling the forces of Hell. Horror legend Heather Langenkamp from A Nightmare on Elm Street fame also makes an appearance in the film.
I don’t want to give too much away because that takes all of the fun and surprise out of viewing it yourself. As a fan of the series, I was very against the idea of someone stepping into the costume and portraying Pinhead except Doug Bradley. We see how well that worked out in the 2011 abysmal Hellraiser: Revelations, which we won’t talk about.
I was skeptical about this latest entry into the series. I recently interviewed Paul T. Taylor for 1428 Elm about his new role as Pinhead. Paul understands Pinhead and the world of Hellraiser as he is also a fan of the character and series. To hear Paul talk of his passion for the character and the series is refreshing.
Hellraiser: Judgement is currently available for pre-order right now on Amazon with a slated release date of February 13th. For the first time in a while I am actually excited for a new Hellraiser release. If the small amount we have seen are an indication of Paul T. Taylor’s ability to play Pinhead, I think fans will be pleased. Check out the trailer below and pass Judgement yourself! Hellraiser: Judgement is directed by Gary Tunnicliffe.
