Hopefully, by now everyone reading this has coughed up the dough to go and see Avengers: Infinity War. But, if for some reason you’ve not yet had the chance, but you’re still keen to see which Marvel Heroes should team-up with the Avengers in the sequel, then we must warn you: THIS LIST CONTAINS SPOILERS. You have been warned.
So, let’s not waste any more time, here’s our list of the Marvel Heroes the Avengers should call upon to help them when they next throw down with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2
Ant-Man & The Wasp
Ant-Man is, of course, the first logical name to pull out of the old superhero Rolodex when it comes to assembling a new team of Avengers. He’s already stood beside them during the events of Captain America: Civil War and his telephone number is presumably listed somewhere on Tony Stark’s mobile.
According to Marvel insiders, Ant-Man & The Wasp – which is the next MCU movie to land in cinemas – will take place before the events of Infinity War but could also occur in tandem, meaning we could get the same heartbreaking conclusion we had in the Avengers movie, thus ruling Ant-Man or Wasp out of appearing in Infinity War Part 2. But let’s assume they’re all OK, and no longer under house arrest, so let’s get these two on board the A-Squad pronto.
Howard the Duck
Yup, another Avengers: Infinity War feature and another plea to bring Howard the Duck on to the squad. Why not? He’s enjoying a career resurgence in the comics, and his two cameo appearances in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies were huge hits. He’s never getting a stand-alone movie so give him chance to showcase his talents here instead. And hey, Marvel, if you do this, then we might stop writing about it.
Richard Rider might seem like a pretty ordinary name at first glance, but we assure you that this high-flying member of the intergalactic space force known as the Nova Corps, is very worthy of subbing for a more established member of the core Avengers team. With his superhuman strength, and durability he would be more than a match for Thanos in a scrap, and his ability to absorb energy and throw it back at his foes could be a key weapon in the war to beat the Mad Titan.
The Incredible Hulk
Yes, we know Bruce Banner was in the first Infinity War, and so was Hulk for all of about 5 minutes, but when round two comes along, and they’re face to face with Thanos, the Avengers are going to need to ensure that the walking Earthquake is front and center leading the charge.
Adam Warlock is an out there choice, but not one that many comic book fans would dispute. After all, it was the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby creation who once defeated Thanos by turning him to stone for a number of years.
If you’re not familiar with Warlock, he first appeared in the early Fantastic Four and Thor comics and was originally devised as the perfect human. Of course, Earth couldn’t contain him, and he eventually took himself off into the far reaches of space and soon become the keeper of the Soul Stone. It is Warlock’s link with the Infinity Stones that eventually brings him into conflict with Thanos (after initially allying with him), and after a brief team up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, he finally put an end to the Mad Titan.
The introduction of Warlock would need some work, and he’d perhaps need to show up somewhere in the MCU prior to Infinity War Part 2 (Guardians of the Galaxy 3, perhaps), but he would be one of our top picks to team up with the Avengers on the big screen.
File this one under “It ain’t ever gonna happen,” but damn it would be so cool to see Wade Wilson’s alter-ego show up in an Avengers flick. Sure, Deadpool’s continued breaking of the fourth wall would probably undermine the tone of the Infinity War movies, but this could be explained away by simply reminding the audience that the Reality Stone, which is currently sitting pretty in Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet, can do pretty much anything – including conjuring up characters that realise they’re in a movie.
Oh, and Deadpool does have a victory over Thanos. Read your comics, kids.
Man-Thing might look like the love child of Hagrid and Groot, but he is, in fact, a brilliant scientist by the name of Ted Sallis, who becomes a hideous swamp monster after injecting himself with a rough version of the Super-Soldier serum that was used to turn Steve Rogers into Captain America.
Perhaps in the next Infinity War movie, Sallis could be trying to recreate the serum to give the people of Earth an edge over the Mighty Thanos, only to find himself transformed into Man-Thing along the way? Heck, Marvel is going to have to pull some new names out of the bag for the sequel, after killing off its top-tier names, and Man-Thing is as good a choice as any.
Okay, so we all know Captain Marvel is going to be a part of the next Avengers movie, so this one is a bit of a cheat, but we simply couldn’t create a list of allies for Tony Stark’s remaining crew without bringing up Carol Danvers and her all-powerful alter-ego.
Marvel has opted to forgo the whole Mar-Vell route, and instead bring Mar-Vell’s long-time associate to the forefront as the MCU’s first truly superpowered female lead. Unlike the aforementioned original Captain Marvel, this incarnation (more commonly known as Ms. Marvel) has never defeated Thanos at anything, let alone in a battle to the death. However, if the old school Cap is getting the heave-ho, then what’s to say his distinct ability to best the Mad Titan at every turn won’t be transferred across to this one? In fact, c’mon – it’s going to happen or what’s the point?
If you don’t know who Squirrel Girl is, then you seriously need to head out and buy a copy of her comic book today. All you really need to know here, though, is she defeated Thanos in a fight, with help from an army of well-trained squirrels. Now if that wouldn’t make for an incredible final act in the next Avengers movie, we don’t know what would.
You think we’re joking right? We’d totally pay to see Thanos lose a fight to a squirrel, wouldn’t you?
Well, that’s our list. Which Marvel heroes would you like to see join The Avengers in Infinity War Part 2? Let us know in the comments section below.
